David Raymond Shore, Maj, USMC, was born on 8 April 1937 in Rhode Island. He was killed on Tuesday 9 July 1974, when his Bronco OV-10 aircraft crashed while landing at the New Hanover County Airport, North Carolina.

The following article was published in the Greensboro (NC) Daily News, Page 14, on Thursday, July 11, 1974:
______Pilot Is Killed
_____In Ejection Try

WILMINGTON (AP) – A Marine pilot was killed Tuesday when his parachute became entangled in his crippled plane after he ejected.
__He was identified as Maj David R. Shore of the New River Air Station.
__The other person aboard, Maj. John H. Pierson Jr., escaped with injuries. A hospital said his situation was not serious.
__The landing gear gave way as the plane was coming down for a landing at the New Hanover County Airport in Wilmington. The plane crashed and burned. It was on a routine training mission from New River.

David was the son of Ralph Kenneth Shore and Susan Ester. He was inducted into the U.S. Naval Academy with the Class of 1963 on 7 July 1959. At the time of his entry, he was one of the oldest members of his class, having spent three years total at Philips Exeter Academy, Yale University, and the Naval Academy Prep School before being inducted into the Naval Academy. He graduated on 5 June 1963 as a member of 24th Company.

In 2013 his classmate Joel Gardner provided these memories of Dave:
Dave Shore was a Marine aviator flying Bronco's out of New River in 1974. He and his brother in law were killed in a crash. They were married to twins who were in a photo in our yearbook. We had run into them at the Camp Lejeune O'Club after they had just set a world record flying that aircraft from Wash. State (I think) to the east coast. As I recall their Bronco crashed at New River upon landing and Dave ejected and came down in front of the a/c and was run over. The accuracy of this is probably suspect after all these years. HQMC should be able to provide a more accurate record. A goodly number of classmates were at the funeral at Arlington.

David was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. He was interred there on 12 July 1974 in Section 11, Grave 869-3. He was survived by his wife Johanna Romano.
