Waco- A murdered prostitute's body was hidden for seven years in a shallow grave before a serial killer helped law officers relocate it.
Remains of Brenda Thompson were reburied Saturday in a pauper's grave at Restland Cemetery.
Authorities believe Thompson was the first of five women abducted and killed by Kenneth Allen McDuff during the five-month period of Oct 1991 through Mar 1992.
Hers was the second of three bodies recovered by authorities after McDuff secretly helped find them before his execution on Nov 17.
Her remains were found about five miles outside of Waco on Oct 3, 1998, seven days before the seventh anniversary of her 1991 disappearance.
Thompson's daughter, Kristina Pina, 20; her brother Michael Thompson, 23; and sister Michelle Quernheim, planned to travel to the funeral from Big Spring.
"I can't speak for everybody, but we've had a really long time to get over it- not that you ever really get over it," Pina said.
"It already kind of feels resolved. This is just a chance for us to say goodbye since we never got to."
A Fort Worth jury had sentenced McDuff to die in the electric chair for killing teen-age cousins Mark Dunnam and Robert Brand and the rap-slaying of Edna Louise Sullivan.
The death sentence was commuted to life in prison in 1972 after the US Supreme Court struck down the death penalty as then imposed.
He was released on 1989, along with thousands of other inmates, as Texas prison officials sought to find space for newly convicted felons.
Melissa Ann Northrup, 22, and Colleen Reed, 28, were killed three years later.
Northrup, pregnant and a mother of two, was abducted from a Waco convenience store where she worked. Her body was found floating in a Dallas County gravel pit about six weeks after she disappeared.
Reed was abducted from an Austin car wash, tortured and raped. It took seven years for her body to be found.
Other women truned up missing in central Texas and McDuff was suspected. He received the death penalty for killing both women.
The bodies of Reed and two Waco women, Thompson and Reginia Moore, were found in early Oct near Waco.
