Badgett Dillard served on Southern Seminary's administrative staff for over three decades, originally as Director of Public Relations and Administrative Services (1953-1966), and was subsequently appointed as Executive Assistant to the President at Southern in 1963, Director of Administration and Business Manager in 1966, Vice-President for Business Affairs at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1972, and Executive Vice President in 1982 until his death in 1986.

A native of Jackson County, NC, Dillard earned his undergraduate degre from Berea College in Kentucky. He received an M.B.A. from University of Louisville, a Doctor of Education degree from Indiana University. From Southern Seminary, Dillard earned the bachelor of divinity degree in religious education and the Master of Religious Education. He was also a graduate of the University of Kentucky College Business Management Institute, and he did graduate work at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Dillard also served as President of the interdenominational Seminary Management Association (1976-78), treasurer and member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Theological Schools in the U.S. and Canada, and on the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1983-1986).
