Actress. Born Donnabelle Mullenger, she was attending Los Angeles City College when she gave an impressive screen test for MGM Studios and was signed to a contract. She made her screen debut in "The Getaway" (1941), followed by supporting roles in "Apache Trail" (1942), "Gentle Annie" (1944), "They Were Expendable" (1945), "It's A Wonderful Life" (1946) and "Scandal Sheet" (1952). In 1953, she was awarded the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Alma, the dancehall girl in the film "From Here To Eternity". Her other credits included "The Last Time I Saw Paris" (1954), "The Far Horizons" (1955), "The Benny Goodman Story" (1956), "Ransom" (1956) and "The Whole Truth" (1958). For television, she is best remembered for her own series "The Donna Reed Show" from 1958 to 1966.
