Rosalie Murray Tooke July 14, 1919- October 26, 2011 Columbus, GA- Rosalie Murray Tooke, 92, of Columbus, GA, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Brighton Gardens in Atlanta, GA. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 29, 2011at Rose Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Ed Kvietkus officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. Interment will follow at 3:30 PM at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Americus, GA. The family will receive friends Friday evening, October 28, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Tooke was born July 14, 1919 in Americus, GA, daughter of the late Nathan F. and Kathleen M. McGarrah Murray. She retired from the Muscogee County School District after many years of dedicated service. Mrs. Tooke was recognized in 1971 as Teacher of The Year by the district, and was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Tooke was also a faithful member of Rose Hill Baptist Church where she was active in WMU and Sunday school. In addition to her parents and sister Flora Murray Harvey, Mrs. Tooke was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Tooke. Survivors include her daughter, Flora Shevlin and her husband John of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, John Shevlin his wife Mary and their children Elizabeth and Jack; Will Shevlin his wife Carrie and their children Lily and Benton; Murray his wife Michelle and their children Ella, Rosalie and Nathan, all of Atlanta; one sister, Alleen Hock of Baltimore, MD, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Rose Hill Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Tooke, 2100 Hamilton Road, Columbus, GA, 31904.
