Daughter of Charles Chancey Chambers and Harriet "Josephene" Bliss; Second wife of James "Russell" Alger Sr; Mother of Naomi "Gayle", Shirley Maxine and James "Jim" Russell Jr.

Her parents were married on 9 May 1899 in Washington Co, OH. Her father passed away from chronic nephritis in 1931. Her mother next married widower, Ora L. Justice, on 9 May 1935. Apparently, her mother thought 9 May 1878 was her birth date, listing it as such on both marriage records. Birth records, however, reveal that she was actually born on 9 Apr 1878. Her mother was widowed again within 9 months of marrying Ora and died naturally while in a long-term care facility in 1961.

Florence and Russell were married in about 1937, according to her responses on the U.S. Federal Census in 1940. They separated somewhere around 1953 and were later divorced (or at least they should have been, because Russell, who married his first wife, Elsie Anna Godfrey, in Donora, PA on 14 Feb 1923, had later married his third wife, Martha Nell Slaughter, in Rockford, AL on 7 Mar 1963). Florence then worked at New York Hospital, having been promoted as a Records Manager until her retirement. She supported her family as a single mother on that income.

On 21 Feb 1989, her grandson, Timothy Patrick Keller, who was a FDNY/EMT, heard an emergency call come over his radio for her address. When he arrived he found his grandmother lying on the floor. She had already passed away. This information was told to me by my cousin Timmy, himself, prior to his passing. I have absolutely no reason to dispute his claim, as I was not there to witness who had arrived on the scene and who had not. The last time I actually saw her was when I was about 6 years of age, somewhere around 1970... But I have the fondest memories of her, as well as the apartment she lived in at that time. I can vividly visualize it to this day.

Though I can not prove with 100% certainty that this family's composition and relation status is as I display it to be, I can say that the circumstantial evidence weighs very heavily in favor of the accuracy of these stated familial connections.
