Kathy Ann Barker Rhodes

PINEVIEW - Kathy Ann Barker Rhodes, devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law and friend, departed this life to her eternal home on Monday, March 19, 2007. The funeral is planned for Thursday, March 22, at Friendship Baptist church at 3P.M. in the afternoon. Kathy was born on March 6, 1959, in Pulaski County to Peggy and Amos Barker. She graduated from Hawkinsville High School in 1977 and continued her education at Middle Georgia College before beginning a career at Robins Air Force Base. It was there that she met the love of her life, Terry Rhodes. They were wed on march 24, 1979. Kathy and Terry were blessed with their first born son, Russ, on June 18, 1981. After Russ' birth, Kathy and Terry made the decision that Kathy would take leave from work in order to be able to devote her time to their family. A few years later, this family was again blessed with a second son, Wes. Wes was born on January 11, 1984. Terry and Kathy could not have been happier as they had two special boys to love.

Kathy always made sure that her boys were happy and health. In 1992, she ventured back out into the workforce. She accepted a position at Fullington Academy where the boys went to school She spent eight of the best years of her life working in the Learning Center at Fullington. To have a change of pace but to remain loyal to Fullington Academy, Kathy accepted the position of front office secretary. She served in this capacity for four years. Kathy was a loving, caring person who always put others before herself. She helped countless children with their studies and so much more. She was a teacher to many, a mother to some, and a friend to all.

Kathy was a very outgoing person. She loved to cook, enjoyed gardening, and traveled extensively throughout the United States. In the early 80's , she spent two months with her family in Australia. For many years, Kathy and her extended family took family vacations. She loved to visit new place and was always up for an adventure, especially with her girlfriends.

Kathy was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she was actively involved. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school secretary, Bible School Director, and worked tirelessly on the Renovation Committee as well as many other committees with in the church. The task was never too big, and the effort that she devoted to various projects was incredible. She was an organizer and a planner who rejoiced in making ideas and dreams become realities.

Survivors include her husband, Terry Rhodes; sons, Russ and Wes Rhodes; parents, Amos and Peggy Barker; brother; sister-in-law; niece and nephew, Todd, Hilary, Sarah Beth, and Sam Barker.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, March 21, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Clark Funeral Home in Hawkinsville, Georgia.

Kathy loved her family, friends, church and the beautiful things in life. At her request, the family will gratefully accept flowers or donations to the Building Fund at Friendship Baptist Church.
