John H. Engel is Dead
New Knoxville, Feb 2 - John Henry Engel,
age 78 former councilman, street commissioner and
volunteer firemen of New Knoxville, was found dead of a heart attack at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the garage of he premises. He was found by his wife when she returned
home from Lima where she had gone to call on friends at the hospital.
Mr. Engel was a native of Germany having been born there on May 4, 1863 a son of Martin and Catherine Jacobs Engel both deceased. He came to his country when four years of age. On April 2, 1894 he married Elizabeth Stukenbroke who is left to mourn his death. Three children were born to them but all are deceased, two dying in infancy and a son Ferdinand, dying at the age two and a half years.
His first wife was Lena Frey of St. Marys who died not long after their marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sisters and a brother, Mrs. William Vossler, Sidney,
Henry Engel St. Marys, Mrs Henry Katter, Wapakoneta, RR and Mrs John Hill Wapakoneta.
Mr. Engel was caretaker of the Pilger Ruhe cemetery for 27 years retiring not so long ago from this
position. He was a member of the First Evangelical and Reformed church transferring his membership here from St. Paul's at St. Marys
