Funeral services for Mrs. Naomi Mathis, 74, widow of John Mathis will be Wednesday at 2 p.m., in Staten Chapel with the Rev. W. Freeman Privett, pastor of Cherry Street Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Upper Alton Cemetery.
Visiting hours at the chapel willl be after 2 p.m., today.
Mrs. Mathis died Monday at 8 a.m., at her home, 1118 E. 4th St.
She was born June 5, 1891, at Obion Tenn., a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs Fred (sic-should be James William) Wilson. She had lived in Alton 37 years.
Before her retirement 12 years ago, Mrs. Mathis had been employed for 17 years at Owens-Illinois.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Crystal Hodge, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Rachel Dirickson, Modesto, Calif. There are six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her husband died Nov 23, 1950, and a son, J. M. Mathis, died in January of 1959.
Her parents are James William (Tobe) Wilson (1857-1935) and Nancy A. (Hunt) Wilson (1859 - ?)
