Alfred served as a Staff Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-25D "How's Your Ole' Tomato" #41-30664, 500th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in the District Of Columbia prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 26, 1941 in Washington, D.C. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Filling Station Attendant and also as Married.

B-25D #41-30664 took off from Nadzab Airfield No. 3, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea on a training mission with a crew from the 499th Bombardment Squadron. Soon after take off this B-25, for an unknown reason, dived straight into the ground and crashed roughly 16 miles west-south-west of Nadzab. The entire crew was killed instantly.

Alfred was "Killed In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on June 30, 1948.

At the families request, his state of birth was added to his headstone (Virginia) instead of his place of residence, as was normally done, (District Of Columbia).
