Buckie Bruce Beck, 62, of Fort Sumner, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at his home;
He was born July 20, 1937, at Pedernal to Jary Jane (Cravens) and Hubert Sylvester Beck.
He was reared at Encino and attended school there, graduating in 1955. He attended the University of New Mexico for one year, then worked for the Santa Fe Railway for five years before he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served from 1960-1962. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to gang work on the railway.
He married Peggy June Savoie on Sept. 19, 1964, at Artesia. They made their home at Yeso, where he wroked as a railway signal maintainer. They moved to Fort Sumner in 1975, and Beck retired from the railway in 1997 after 41 years.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Engineers Union, The Fort Sumner Bowling League, Lions Club and and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he served in all local offices.He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert S. Beck on May 1, 1968; his mother, Mary Jane Beck on June 15, 1996; one sister, Kelsey Brady on Aug. 21, 1981; and one brother, Stanley Beck in 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Beck of Fort Sumner; two daughters, Denise Dosher and Jodie Jacks of Fort Sumner; a nephew raided as a son, Lindsey Beck of Pampa, Texas; one brother, Dan Larry Beck of Encino; two sisters, Katy Starbuck of Clovis and Betty Wimberly of Moriarty; and two granddaughters.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner. Dan Craig will officiate.
Burial will be at Fort Sumner Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don Sweet, Norman Moore, Dee Fish, Kyle Brewer, Jerry Jacobs, Leslie Bruce, Johnny Bruce and Stoney Floyd.
Memmorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
