Fort Bend Herald, December 9, 2005:

Funeral services for Fred K. Melton, 87, of Sugar Land, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg, with the Rev. John Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.

Fred was born Feb. 12, 1918 in Roberta, Okla., to Fannie Glass and Granville Melton. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Fred lived in Sugar Land for 58 years working for Sugar Land Industries for 17 years. He then worked for Imperial Sugar Company retiring after 18 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sugar Land where he was also a member of the Silvertones Choir. He passed away Dec. 7, 2005 in Richmond.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Jalasca Calhoun Melton; and his parents, Fannie and Granville Melton.

He is survived by sons, Freddie K. Melton Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Richmond, and G. W. Melton and wife, Nancy, of Irving; grandchildren, Kyle Melton of Irving, Shelby Melton of Irving, and Brittany Ferguson of Richmond; along with other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B. F. Terry Blvd. in Rosenberg. 281-341-8800.
