Suggested edit: Joe Sherwood Hilliard, longtime resident of Odenton, died peacefully on Friday September 13th, 2013. He was born and raised on a farm near Killeen, Texas, where he graduated from high school. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. He flew 35 combat missions in the Korean War and has been awarded the Air Force Combat Ribbon, the Air Medal, the Korean Service Medal and earned other lesser awards. With 10, 000 flying hours, he had visited 40 countries. He has also worked as a Real Estate Agent, an Air Traffic Control Specialist, and as a flight navigator on NASA missile calibration and simulation aircraft. He enjoyed the Orioles and Ravens, reading, and fixing things. He was predeceased by his parents Joe and Edith Hilliard and his brother Kyle Hilliard. He is survived by his wife Ruth, 3 daughters Patty and Mike Landon of Colorado Springs CO, Carol and Joe Ambrozewicz of Bel Air MD and Linda and Glenn McCowan of Oakton VA. and ten grandchildren, Sarah, Kathleen, Holly, Rebecca, Michaela, and Emily Landon; Stewart, Wendy, and Damian Ambrozewicz, and Amanda McCowan. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Hilliard of Austin, TX, sister-in-law Betsy Hilliard of Killeen, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
