Obituary: "Lincoln County Pioneer Dies" - Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mrs. Johanna Husby, 89-year-old Lincoln county pioneer who came to this county from Norway 86 yeas ago in a sailing ship. Services were conducted by the Rev. E. H. Fretheim at Anderson Funeral home and at Romsdal Church. Burial was in Romsdal cemetery. Mrs. Husby died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Wevik, with whom she had made her home the past ten years. Johanna Olson, the daughter of Anna and Steffen Olson, was born June 1, 1863, in Hadeland, Norway and three years later came to this county with her parents in a sailing ship that took seven weeks to cross the ocean. The family first settled at Claremont, Iowa, but after three years traveled by covered wagon to Gayville, S.D., where they homesteaded. She was confirmed in Trondhjem Lutheran church near Volin. On December 10, 1885, she was married to Even Husby and in 1888 they came to Lincoln county, settling in Norway township where they continued to live until 1920 when they retired and moved to Canton. She is survived by three sons, John Husby of Canton, Simon Husby of Rapid City and William Husby of Portland, Oregon; two daughters, Mrs. Wevik of Canton and Mrs. Andrew Ekanger of Hudson; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1931, a daughter, five brothers and two sisters. Pallbearers at service Tuesday were six grandsons, Ernest and Charles Ekanger, Clarion Dahl, and Irving, Ernest and Delmar Wevik.
