Ralph Ernest Stickney Sr., 104, a former rancher, died Sunday at a private adult care home in Clarkston of causes related to age.


He was born Oct. 10, 1891, at Pontiac, Mich., to William and Mary Hall Stickney. He graduated from the eighth grade at Pontiac and attended business school there.
He then moved to Joseph, Ore., where he ranched for years in the Hells Canyon area. He moved to Clarkston in 1943 and worked for Hood's Sheep Ranch and tended his own garden and orchard.
He married Mary R. Hibbs Oct. 27, 1914, at Joseph.
As a young man he enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, ice skating and basketball. In his later years he liked to work outdoors, watch television and read.
He is survived by three sons, Russell Stickney of Lewiston, Wayne Stickney of Culdesac and Ralph Stickney of Kooskia, 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
His wife died in 1985. He also was preceded in death by a son, Wendell Stickney, and all of his brothers and sisters.
A service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Merchant Funeral Home at Clarkston. Viewing is at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Burial is to follow at Enterprise, Ore.
Memorials may be made to the Rescue Unit 911 of Clarkston.
