OBITUARY :
HAROLD L. "PILL" WARNER, SR., 81, of Smithsburg, Md., passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Williamsport Nursing Home, surrounded by family members.

Born Nov. 16, 1931, in Pleasant Valley, Md., he was the son of the late Jesse and Bertha (Smith) Warner.

Pill was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.

He worked for C. William Hetzer Construction for 29 years, retiring in 1997, where he was known to his co-workers as "Cap."

Pill loved nature, hunting mushrooms in the spring, crossword puzzles, and took up riding and repairing mopeds after his retirement.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Clara "Pinky" (Kline) Warner, whom he married May 4, 1957; daughter, Cindy Wivell and husband, Ed, of Smithsburg; sons, Harold "PJ" Warner Jr. and wife, Jeanne, of Port Orange, Fla., and David Warner and wife, Jeri Arney, of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Sarah (Wivell) Damico and husband, John, of Hagerstown, Matt Wivell of Wilmington, N.C., and Jacey, Hannah and Jesse Warner of Port Orange; great-grandchildren, Elysah, Erykah and Elyaah Damico; sisters, Thelma Hockensmith of Hagers-town and Carolyn Delauter of Mountain View, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn "Bud" Warner, George Warner, Jesse Warner and John Warner; and sisters, Hilda Brandenberg, Louise Johnston, Charlotte Wolfe and Sherry King.

Services will be Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Pastor Darrell Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, with military honors provided by AMVETS Post 10 and the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Pill to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742; or Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
