Rev. Samuel Carl Holmes, of Campbellsville, son of the late Alonzo Holmes and Florence Burton Holmes, was born June 14, 1927, in Adair County, Kentucky. He died at 11:00 P.M., Friday, September 13, 2013 in Campbellsville. Age: 86 He professed faith in Christ and attended Jesus Name Church. He was a veteran of World War II and served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville. He united in marriage to Ella Johnson on March 1, 1947. Besides his wife, Ella Holmes, he is survived by five sons and four daughters: Danny Holmes, Terry Holmes, Pam Russell and husband, Jerry, Judy Jones and husband, Jimmy, Janey Read and husband, Lemuel of Campbellsville, Linda Sharpe and husband, Edward of Greensburg, Ronnie Holmes of Finley, Ohio, Jerry Holmes and wife, Nancy of St. Paul, Indiana, and Sam Holmes of Greenwood, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers: Edgar Holmes of Columbia and Rev. Charles Holmes of Louisville. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren: Bethany Mann and Todd Holmes, two sisters and two brothers: Marie Vaughn, Lucille Roy, J.C. Holmes and Herbert Holmes. ________________
