Leroy Henry Babcock, eldest son of Henry E. and Sarah D. Babcock, was born at Parallel, Riley county, Kansas, on February 26, 1871, and departed this life at the Quinter hospital on August 30, 1953, at the age of 82 years, six months and four days. Roy moved to Ness County with his parents in 1887. He lived there until 1899, then moved to Gove county.

Roy was united in marriage to Laura Vannetta Smith, July 24, 1901. To this union seven children were born. He spent his life farming and raising cattle, until his health would not permit. They then moved to Utica to make their home in 1940, where they lived until his death. He was a loving and kind husband and father, a good provider, and a kind-hearted neighbor.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, his father, mother, two sisters, and two brothers. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Laura; three sons, Harry and Ross of Utica, Lee of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Fay Doerr of McCracken, Mrs. Dollie Spear of Nickerson, and Mrs. Maude Cheney of LaCrosse; three sons-in-law and three daughters-in-law; two sisters, Mrs. Lou Hall of Altoona, and Mrs. Lettie Lovitt of Utica; 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Christian church at Utica Wednesday afternoon, September 2. Pallbearers were Ward Jacka, Ralph McCartee, Richard Norton, David Bollinger, L. W. Miller, Francis Thornburg, Music was furnished by Clyde Giddings, Elmer Ochs, I. L. Harvey, S. E. King. Interment was in the Utica cemetery.
