Michael Criscuola died unexpectedly at his home in Coupeville on February 29. 1972. He was born in Point Blakeley, Washington on December 14, 1911.
Mr. Criscuola came to Whidbey Island with his father, Salvatore Criscuola, when he was 13. For most of his life, he was a commercial fisherman.
He first operated the purse seiner Saint Michael as its skipper in 1934. He later owned and operated his own boat the Lemis 11. Mr. Criscuola commercially fished from the Columbia River area to as far north as southeastern Alaska as well as in the waters of Puget Sound.
He was a member of the Whidbey Island Lodge No. 15 F&AM of Coupeville and was a member in long-standing of the Purse Seiners Association of Seattle since 1940.
He was survived by his wife, Eileen; by three sons, Michael R. (associated with his father as a commercial fisherman) of Coupeville, Noel Criscuola of Missouri and Nicholas Criscuola of Bellingham; by a daughter, Mrs. Victoria Hutchings of Seattle; by three brothers, Joe and Jay Criscuola of Seattle and Andrew Criscuola of Bellingham; by two sisters, Mrs. Victoria Hazlett of Olympia and Miss Mary Criscuola of Bainbridge Island; and by two grandsons.
Private family services were held in the family home. Cremation, Hawthorne Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Whidbey General Hospital Memorial fund.
