Doy served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He was employed for 38 years at the US Steel Plant as a Crane Operator and Personnel Clerk in the Rolling Mill. He attended the Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the American Legion. He was a woodcrafter and attended craft shows for over 20 years.
Mr. Elder is survived by his sons Michael (Kay) of Littleton, CO, Dale (Karen) of Elyria, daughter Ruth (Jeff) Bates of Elyria; grandchildren Nicole and Ryan Bates and Lauren Elder; step-grandchildren Fred and April and step-great-grandchildren Tad, Dusty, and Cole; sisters Edith Williams of Florida, Mary White of West Virginia, and Ruby Massey of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife Effa (nee Curry); brother Chester Elder and sister Mabel Elder.
Friends may call 2-6pm Sunday, September 15 at the Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene, 1107 Clemens Avenue, Elyria. Funeral service will be 10am Monday at the church. Rev. George Gribben will officiate. Interment will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. Military Honors will be performed by VFW Post #1079 of Elyria.
