"On Monday, April 9, 2012, Ella Lucinda Berger, 81, left with her angels to her forever home where there will be no more pain or heartache. She will join her parents, Ruby and Walter King, two granddaughters, many close and special friends and her beloved animal friends.

Ella was born on May 7, 1930, in Great Falls. She spent her first six years on a farm near Big Sandy. Her parents then moved to Clinton, where she went to grade school and graduated from Missoula County High School. Ella moved to Butte in 1956. She had a unique personality, was outspoken, independent and loved animals, even the bad ones. Being a people person, she never met a stranger. She was sentimental and loved to keep special "stuff" thus acquiring her housekeeping motto of "dust and stuff." She enjoyed the simple things in life, family trips in "Big Black" (truck) or a day at the lake in the "Duck" (Boat) with a package of hot dogs. The 4th of July was her favorite holiday. Watching the hummingbirds (hummers) was a favorite past time as well as a bonfire with lots of marshmallows. She especially enjoyed her luncheon groups and the beautiful flower she grew on her balcony. She loved NASCAR racing and her collection of angels and cardinals and all her furry friends. Sharing peanut butter and mayo sandwiches was a special treat she shared with her best friends.

Ella worked many years as a waitress at the Ramada Inn. She also worked at the Veterans Affairs, Social Security Office and at the personnel office and justice court in the courthouse while on the Green Thumb Program. She belonged to the Longfellow PTA and Recreation Center, the Wet Hens of Fairmont, the Red Hat Society and her Fairmont Swim Group.

Ella is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home and interment of ashes will take place in Missoula at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Rocky Mountain Hospice or the local animal shelter.

In her own words, Ella asked that friends remember her by "taking a few minutes to go out of your way to help a friend or someone in need, hug a loved one, make that phone call, give a special thank you, or just take time for a smile, and please, don't forget the animals in your good deeds.""
