Born Nov. 29, 1923 in Wythe County, he was the son of the late William Harold Slate and Mary Ann Bolen Slate.
He was a member of the Bob White Blvd. Church of God. He was a WW II veteran serving in the United States Army and was retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, Radford.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Carl Eanes Slate; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Sandra) Stowers Sr., Mrs. Dennis (Debra) Taylor, both of Pulaski; one sister, Mrs. Marietta Slate Dennis of Pulaski; two brothers, Colubus Rector (Rex) Slate, Graham Bolen Slate, both of Pulaski; three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Bob White Blvd Church of God with Rev. E.M. Abbott and Rev, Randy Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski. Full military honors will be conducted by VFW Grover King Post 1115 of Hillville. Visiting will be anytime today with the family receiving friends from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Bower Funeral ChapeL The body will be taken to the church Thursday, at 9:30 a.m. to lie instate until the time of the service. Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski is handling the arrangements.
