Johnny Eugene Rector, 72, of Stony Point, went home to be with Jesus Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, after a courageous battle against cancer. Born Aug. 21, 1937, in Alexander County, he was the son of the late Beulah Icenhour Rector and Earnest James Rector.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rector was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Rector Wilson; three brothers, Graydon Rector, Henkle Icenhour and Clifford Rector; and two sisters, Christine Massey and Jo Ann Frye.
Mr. Rector was the retired owner/operator of Rector's Concrete Finishing Co. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Statesville.
Loved ones left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sylvia Rash Rector, of the home; three daughters, Cindy Johnson (John), Tammy Rector, and Jeannie Worley (Jeffery; nine grandchildren, Amber and Tonya Elder, Jonathan Mitchell, Kyle Fox, Caitlin, Amanda and Mark Worley, and Karlee and Kacey Wilson; two brothers, J.P. Rector and Glenn Rector; two sisters, Lois Jean Lovette and Mildred Clarke; brother-in-law, the Rev. Mitchell Rash (Sandy); a sister-in-law, Polly Windham; special friend, Rickey Elder; a number of nieces and nephews; and countless other friends, as he was loved by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at Victory Baptist Church, Midway Drive, Statesville. The Rev. Mitchell Rash and the Rev. Brian Eades will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
