--After a brief illness, Mrs. Oswald J. Ward died Friday afternoon, October 5, 1934. For several years Mrs. Ward had been in failing health.
She was the daughter of Rev. Rodney Rose and his first wife Esther Thurston Rose. She is survived by her husband, two sons Kenneth O. Ward and C. Paul Ward, both of Candor; two daughters, Mrs. C. N. Robinson of Candor; and Mrs. L. R. Mooney of Utica; three sisters, Miss Ella Rose of Candor, Mrs. Richmond of Jamaica, N.Y., Mrs. Huston of Hollywood Cal.; two brothers, Samuel N. Rose, of Marshall, Minn., and Olin Rose of Tipton, Ind. There are also twelve grandchildren.
Mrs. Ward was educated at Wyoming Seminary where she was graduated in 1877. She taught school until 1881, when she was married to O. J. Ward of Candor.
For nearly two years they lived in Michigan, but after that came to Candor because of the death of Mr. Ward's father. They spent their life in Candor living in the same house during their entire married life.
During her years of strength Mrs. Ward was active in the work of the Methodist Church. She was superintendent of the Primary Dept.; for several years president of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, later for many years president of the Home Missionary Society. She also taught a Sunday School Class of boys. After she was unable to do active work she took charge of the Home Dept. of the Sunday School seeing about distributing S.S. quarterlies to those who were shut in and unable to attend church.
She was a woman much loved in her community, especially by all children. Her good life leaves a sweet and helpful memory to all who knew her. Her children rise up and call her blessed.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, Rev. J. M. Coleman, officiating. Burial was made in Maple Grove Cemetery.
