Edward J. Mezera, age 73, of Prairie du Chien, died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 10, 2010.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 15, at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien. Rosary will be at 4:00 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m., wake scripture. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.in his memory.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 16, at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, with Rev. James Weighner officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, with full Military rites conducted by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.

Edward James Mezera was born November 6, 1936, in LaCrosse, the son of Vincent and Catherine (Mitterater) Mezera. He graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1954. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Janice Elaine (Schneider) Martin on June 25, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was employed with Local 263 Sheet Metal Workers Union, until he retired. His hobbies were his neighborhood garage, pontooning, fun loving sense of humor and his daily inspections of PdC.

Surviving are his wife, Janice; four daughters, Cathy Fitzhugh of Waukesha, Kay (Doug) Hayes of Baltimore, MD, Wanda (James) Condoluci of Minneapolis, MN, and Audrey Jones of Madison, WI; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Luckason of Lannon, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Emma Mezera and one sister, Rosemary Malin.
