Edward J. "Ed" Liptak, age 80, of 1703 E. First St., died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2002.

Ed was born July 31, 1921, in Streator, he was the son of John and Agnes (Fialko) Liptak. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married June Ondercho on September 1, 1946, at St. Stephen's Church. He worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Company for 42 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a Third Degree member of Monsignor George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council 790 and a Fourth Degree member of Assembly 2109. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years. He was a past president of the National Council of Catholic Men. He served as the director of the St. Stephen's Choir for over 40 years.

He was the recipient of the St. Thomas Moore Award given by the Diocese of Peoria in 1967. He was honored by the Knights of Columbus State Council in 1994 at the Night of Knights. He was very active in fund-raising for both St. Stephen's School and Marquette High School.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Loren) Corell of Ballwin, Missouri, and Janine (Joe) Petric of Morris; sons, Brian (Angela) Liptak of Wauconda and Dave (Diane) Liptak of North Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters, Betty (John) Hardin of Streator, Dianna (Norman) Baetz of Novato, California, and Marilyn (Glenn) Dickey of Marysville, Ohio; brothers, Albert (Mary) Liptak and John (Laura) Liptak, both of Joliet; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Johanna Liptak.

Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Solon & Baker Funeral Home with rosary recited at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers: son-in-law, Loren Corell; nephews, Matt and Steve Cassady; and Dan Koval, Richard Schaibley, and Richard Killian. Honorary pallbearers will be Third Degree members of the Knights of Columbus Council 790, Joseph Corrigan, Jerry Trainor, Ronald Collner, and John J. Solon.

Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at St. Stephens Church, the Rev. Jeffrey Lawrence officiating. Music during service includes; Ave Maria, Krasna Si Maria, Be Not Afraid, You Are Mine, Here I Am, Lord and Panis Angelicus.

Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery.
