Sophia was a daughter of Gilbert and Anna Marie (Olson) Larsen. She graduated from Swedish American Hospital School of Nursing in Rockford Illinois and did post graduate studies at several other universities. She was employed as a nurse at several hospitals during her career. She was named to "Who's Who of Middle West American Women" in 1963 and "Who's Who of American Women" 1961-1963. She invented The Larsen Aerial I.V. Suspension and The Mayfield-Larsen Overhead Table during her career.
