August B "Dean" Young, 92, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Mercy Hospital of Defiance.

He was born on September 4, 1921 to Darrel and Hazel (Sowle) Young in Defiance. On February 24, 1951 he married Sylvia (Ball) Young and she survives

Dean was a WWII veteran of the US Army. He owned and operated Young Tax Service in Defiance. Dean was a life member of VFW Post #3360, Oakwood Legion and the Mayflower Society. He enjoyed fishing bowling, baseball and softball. Dean was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, son, Philip (Amy) Young of Cecil, daughters, Mary Jane (Tim) Bowers of Flagstaff, AZ, Gloria (Bill) Finn of Defiance, 5 grandchildren, Neil Starrett, Kati (Finn) Young, James Young, Kari Young, Keenan Young, 2 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sister, Mardell Mangett of Flint, MI and a sister-in-law, Margo Young of Austin, TX.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Roy A Young, Herbert Hoover "Bud" Young, sisters, Mavis Grodi, Donna Walters-Guldi, Ruth J Boyd and Hazel "Sis" Helberg.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Schaffer Funeral Home with Rev. John McKay officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery with military graveside rites being accorded by VFW Post #3360..

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2013, from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2013 and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2013 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.

The family suggest memorials be made to the VFW or to Wounded Warriors.
