A well-known local violinist, Mr. Mentis was a member of the Musicians Local 245 and had played in the first violin section of the Muncie Symphony Orchestra for 25 years. He had also played in the Fort Wayne Summer Symphony and at one time played with the Paul Ash Orchestra in Chicago.
Mr. Mentis was one of the first broadcasters over Don Burton's WLBC radio station. He was a member of F&AM Lodge 433.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Paul, Muncie; a sister, Mrs. Robert Kennedy, Indianapolis; three brothers, Theodore A., San Francisco, Calif., Nick A. and Chris A. Mentis, both of Muncie; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at Parson Mortuary from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday where Muncie Lodge 433 will conduct memorial services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be there at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. David Maisch, assistant pastor of High Street Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery.
