Sister Mary Benignus McCarthy passed away April 21st, at St. Catherine's Hospital McCook, Nebraska, age 37 years, 6 months and 22 days. She was the daughter of Mr. Dan McCarthy, who lives 3 miles southwest of Spalding. Her mother, Mrs. McCarthy, passed away some years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss, her father, six sisters and four brothers. They are David and Dan of Florida, Joe of Greeley and Lee of Spalding. Mrs. Nellie Grieser and Mrs. Margaret Logsdon of North Platte, Mrs. Loretta Daly of Spalding, and the Misses Frances, Genevieve and Florence of Spalding.
Sister is a graduate of Spalding Academy, being a member of the 1913 class entering the convent in the summer of 1913. She taught school in Boston, Hastings, Cedar Rapids and Spalding. Sister was in the seventeenth year of her religious profession. The past six years she has been a patient sufferer and an example of fortitude to everyone. Her father accompanied the remains to the mother house, St. Catharine of Siena convent, St. Catharine, Kentucky.
