Harold Francis Cunniff Jr. was born on October 2, 1923, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Harold Francis Cunniff & (Mary) Gertrude (Graham). He had a younger brother, Paul V. Cunniff. Harold served as an aviator in the US Navy and died on November 28, 1943, his plane lost at sea, at the age of 20. Harold had several step siblings from his mother's second marriage to Moses Paquette of Nashua, NH, as well as a half brother, Leo T. Paquette.
