Son of Betsey Atchinson and Samuel Johnson Wyman Jr. of Monroe County, New York. He was their eighth child and sixth son of ten children.

He married Harriet M. Peek 10 November 1857 at Halfmoon, Saratoga, New York.

They were the parents of two infants who died young, a daughter, Hattie Augusta, born 1864 who died at 12 years, Frances, a daughter who died after the age of six , and Burton Abraham Wyman 1859-1925.

In 1894, he married a second time to Ellen, unknown, born about January 1849 in Indiana. She had two children, who must have been grown by the 1900 Census.

Albert was a carpenter, Journeyman and was engaged in railroad work, bridge building and superintendent of a force of mechanics in the state of New York for several years.

He was Lieutenant of Company C, Twenty-fourth Regiment, New York prior to relocating to Iowa in 1871.

He purchased, and eventually cultivated, 753 acres of land which he farmed and set out 7000 forest and 140 fruit trees. It was called Maple Grove and was the setting for a beautiful home.

He held many township offices over a period of 15 years and named the town of Keg Creek in which he was its first Treasurer, Township Trustee and Justice of the Peace.

He belonged to several fraternal and social organizations including Excelsior Lodge, Council Bluffs Order of Masons- being a Royal Arch Mason, member of the Farmers' Alliance, President of the Township Alliance and Treasurer of the County Alliance. He was widely known as The Honorable A. W. Wyman.
