“Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman, aged 76 years, widow of the late Adam Hoffman, died at noon on Wednesday at her home, 865 South Main street, after an illness of just one week’s duration following a paralytic stroke suffered on October 18.
The daughter of Simon Saurer and Mary Ann (nee Tschantz), she was born near Mt. Eaton, May 10, 1857, in which community she grew to young womanhood. On December 16, 1875, she was united in marriage to Adam Hoffman, who preceded her in death October 4, 1926. Of the nine children born to them two daughters, Ella and Mrs. Amanda Moser, also preceded their parents in death.
From the time of their marriage in 1875 until 1913, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman followed the vocation of farming. Twenty years ago they came to Orrville to live in retirement.
She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Louis{a} Denbrook, Albert, Elmer, Clarence and Leonard, all residing in Akron, Mrs. Della Amstutz, of Kidron, and Mrs. Zulla Beck, of Orrville. There are 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren surviving her, also one sister, Mrs. C. C. Hoffman, of this city; four brothers, Albert Saurer, of New Philadelphia; Peter Saurer, Dalton; Emanuel Saurer, Maysville; Edward Saurer, Wilmot, and a great host of other relatives and friends.
Early in life she united with the Reformed church at Mt. Eaton, but for more than 55 years she was a member of Christ Reformed church of this city, being a regular and faithful attendant at its services so long as health and strength permitted.
Funeral services will be held from the late home at 2 o’clock and at 2:30 in Christ Reformed church on Saturday afternoon, conducted by her pastor, Rev. A. L. Scherry. Interment will be made in the family burial plot in Crown Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the home, 865 South Main street, on Friday evening from 6 to 9 o’clock. Leickheim & Frey are in charge of arrangements."
