James H. Mansfield, a veteran World War I, was the son of James H Mansfield and Anna (Tabeling) Mansfield Shaw, both of Boston, Massachusetts. At the time of his death from lung cancer, at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC, he was a retired Master Sargent in the U.S. Army and his residence was 134 P. Street, South Boston, Massachusetts.

His funeral was held at J. F. O'Brien Funeral Home in South Boston. He was buried on July 5, 1950 in a cemetery plot owned by John Cunniff (a cousin). James had a sister, Catherine Louise Mansfield, who predeceased him in 1908. She is also buried in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Gravesite Details

There are two headstones. The small white headstone has the names of Jane (McDermott) Cunniff and James Cunniff and is leaning on the larger stone (Cunniff, Mansfield, Tabeling), which was installed much later.
