Lonnie Maxwell Freeman
FREEMAN Lonnie Maxwell Freeman, age 76, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Shands Medical Center Jacksonville. A lifetime resident of Nassau County, FL, he attended schools in Fernandina. He served in the U. S. Army in Germany as a Radio and Radar Repair Specialist. After returning from service, he helped run the family Shrimp Trawl Netting Business while also working as Assistant to the Harbor Master and Ship Pilot for 15 years. He retired after 33 years with ITT Rayonier. His true passion in life was fishing. He is credited with starting the Charter Boat Association in Fernandina in the early 1970's. "Capt." Lonnie "Ole Seadog" spent 55 years as a Charter Fishing Captain and mentor to many; which is his legacy. His fishing tales will be remembered by all. Surviving are his wife: the former Lillian Nell Tomlinson of Nassau County, his daughters, Lesia (Timothy) Freeman Waldrip, Cammie Gayle Freeman, his brother, Leo (Faye) Freeman, his sisters, Hazel (Leo) Edwards, Nora Thomas, Sara (Wesley) Arnold, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, on Saturday, July 14, 2007 from the First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach. Mr. Freeman will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery. The family invites friends and guests to visit on Friday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Oxley Heard Funeral Home.
