A US rugby international. While at Stanford University he was selected to play in the US rugby team to compete in the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp. They won the gold medal, defeating France 8/0. He was also a talented American football and basketball player, becoming Stanford's first All-Pacific Coast Conference basketball player in 1920. After his playing career he coached American football and basketball at the University of the Pacific for a decade.
