Mrs. Sparks was born in Bristol, TN, on March 6, 1915 and was a daughter of Paris Haymaker Whitt and Nana Hatcher Whitt. She was a member of First Christian Church in Erwin, TN. As one of eleven siblings, Mrs. Sparks enjoyed spending time with her family.
Kathryn began her working life as an employee of Southern Potteries after graduation from Unicoi County High School in 1933. She met her late husband at Southern Potteries. She and Frank were married more than 68 years at the time of his passing. Kathryn had beautiful red hair and was the model for the famous Southern Potteries Lucy Plate.
Kathryn was a beautician, antique dealer and an avid amateur champion bowler. She participated in bowling tournaments from Atlanta to Las Vegas. She continued as an active bowler until she was age 82.
She was a great conversationalist who loved to laugh and was a joy to everyone around her. Kathryn enjoyed her birthday parties at Christian Care Center with "Lightnin Charlie" as her special guest entertainer.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sparks was preceded in death by her husband Frank Sparks; four brothers: Thurman "Bus" Whitt, Bill Whitt, Alvin "Bud" Whitt, and Jack Whitt; three sisters: Maxine Whitt Jarrett, Gladys Whitt Landreth and Marie Whitt Laws.
