Mattie Pearl Riley Nelson, 100, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2007. Funeral services were Dec. 29, 2007, at King Solomon M. B. Church in Yazoo City, MS.
Mrs. Nelson was born July 3, 1907, in Yazoo County, MS; to the late, Jerry and Betty Coleman Riley. She was a member of Christian Grove M. B. Church and served as an usher until her health failed. She also served as superintendent of Sunday School, president of Women's Missions, president of the Usher Board and janitor for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Nelson; and two brothers, Joe Golden and McKinley Riley.
Survivors include three sons, James Wesley and Jessie Nelson of Chicago, IL; and Leslie Nelson of Meridian, MS; three daughters, Bettie Louise Clark and Essie Nelson of Yazoo City, MS; and Fannie Morris of Madisonville, KS; 25 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other friends and relatives.
Rev. Arthur Young officiated.
Burial followed at Christian Grove Cemetery in Yazoo City, MS.
