CHERRY PICKERS; Ken Fenik, left, and his father, Rich Fenik, hold a boudh heavy with cherries that came from a 50-year-old cherry tree in the front of Ken's home at 6275 Lake Ave. in Elyria.
Lots of cherries from a peach of a tree
Rich, Joe and Ken Fenik are serious about their cherry picking.
For more than 40 years, brothers Rich and Joe have been picking the same cherry tree in the front yeard of 6275 Lake Ave., Elyria Township.
There's only one cherry tree in the yard.
The house belongs to Ken, Rich's son. Ken bouught it earlier this year from Richa dn Joe's mother, Anna Fenik. Ken often joins his dad and uncle in the picking.
"You woul not believe the cherries we got this year."Rich Fenik said. "They've been terrific."
They started picking last Saturday and finished Friday. Cherries were $3 a quart and sold from a table in front of the tree. Ken Fenik said he hopes the money can be used by him and his wife, Allison, to just go "someplace quiet" for a short vacation.
The property used to have more cherry trees, but when Lake Avenue was expanded many years ago., most of the other cherry trees were cut down, Joe Fenik said.
