US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served Florida's 12th, 15th and 22nd Congressional Districts in the United States House of Representatives from 1981 until 2007. Born and raised in Miami, he attended Stetson University and attained his law degree from there in 1966. He rose up the ranks as a law official in Fort Lauderdale, as he served as chief city prosecutor followed by associate judge from 1969 until 1971. Shaw was elected and served as Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Florida from 1975 until 1980. During his tenure in Congress, he served as chairman of the subcommittee of the Ways and Means Committee and chairman of the House Social Security Subcommittee. Shaw played a significant role in the passage of legislation reducing and eliminating Welfare.
