She was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Wilkes-Barre, to the late Irene and Leonard Johns. She attended Meyers High School and Wyoming Seminary.
She married John T. Griffith on June 15, 1946, and they moved to Lorton, Va., in 1959, where they raised their four daughters. In 1984, she returned to Pennsylvania to the same apartment building she lived in as a teenager, with the same landlord, proving, "You can go home again."
She later moved to Wright Manor in Mountain Top, where she enjoyed living in the same building as sisters Lolly and Gert. In 2005, she moved to Stillwater, Okla., to live with her daughter, Jackie. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Westhaven Nursing Home in Stillwater, where she made many friends and was known for her beautifully color-coordinated clothing.
Bingo was a favorite activity at Westhaven and she enjoyed playing canasta on Sunday afternoons with daughters, Jackie and Gail.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Dorothy Richards; son-in-law, Robert Lochmiller; and grandson, Bobby Lochmiller.
She is survived by daughters, Linda Richards and husband, Fred; Sally Hawkins and husband, Paul; Jackie Lochmiller and Gail Ezepek; five dearly loved grandchildren, Paul and Megan Hawkins, Michael and John Ezepek, and Evan Lochmiller; and great-granddaughter, Rilee Ezepek, who each brought joy to her life and a smile to her face; sisters, Gertrude Ley and Charlotte (Lolly) Darden, her lifelong friend Margaret Hassell, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Interment will take place at a later date in Wilkes-Barre.
