Freda B. Core, 88, retired teacher
She was born March 31, 1912, in Reedsville, W.Va., and lived in Lorain since 1978. She graduated from Fairmont State Teachers College in West Virginia. Mrs. Core worked as an elementary school teacher in Morgantown, W.Va., teaching second and third grade for 29 years before retiring in 1974. She attended Grace Baptist Church, Lorain, and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons 399 in Lorain and the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary in Morgantown. She was a volunteer at the Lorain Senior Center and the Salvation Army Keenagers in Lorain. Survivors include daughter, Barbara Metelsky of Amherst; sons Ernest B. of Roswell, N.M. and Lewis J. of Crownsville, Md.; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Friends may call Sunday 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Private family funeral services will be held. The Rev. Jay Roller, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 N. Abbe Road, Elyria 44035.
