Gilbert married Anne E. Haake in Henry, Ohio on July 6, 1940 and they had two children, Jack and Julie. Gil was an avid bowler in most of the Lorain "A" leagues. His first wife Anne passed away in 1966. Gilbert married his second wife, Sue Andorka (nee Parham) in Lorain, Ohio in 1968.
Gil enlisted in the Army in 1945 and served in Europe. After Gil was discharged he worked at American Shipbuilding in Lorain for over 40 years, retiring in the early 1980's. In the 1970's he often said he was a NY Yankee fan and a Cincinnati Bengal fan. I think that was just to irritate his son and step-son who were Browns and Indians fans. He chose the Bengals because he didn't like what Art Modell did to Paul Brown when he fired Paul from the Browns.
Gil later performed volunteer services at Easter Seals in Elyria, Ohio, fixing wheelchairs and being a general handy man. He moved with Sue to her native Texas in 1986 and passed away in Conroe, Texas shortly thereafter after a long battle with cancer.
