Thrush was a patrolman with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and assigned to the Athens Post. Patrolman Thrush was killed in an automobile accident on State Route 93, in Vinton County, Ohio, when his patrol car struck an ice patch, hit another car head-on, and went over an embankment. He was on his way to a traffic accident on Route 160 when the accident occurred.
