William S. Huggins

Williams S. "Bill" Huggins, 87, died September 9, 2013, at his home in Union City, Tennessee, surrounded by his family, who were holding his hand, and his loving wife who never left his side.

Services will be held at the Cedar Grove Church of Christ in Andalusia, Alabama, Saturday, September 14th, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 12 noon until the hour of the service. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Church of Christ Cemetery. His son, Dan Huggins, will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Blake Huggins, Brad Caldwell, Jerry Tennison, Terry Pierce, Sammy Huggins, and, Britt Huggins.

The family requests memorials be made to THE BRIDGE of West Tennessee Phase 2 Transitional Home for Women and Women with Children, P.O. Box 1208, Union City, Tn 38261.

Mr. Huggins was born in Andalusia, Alabama, November 21, 1926. The son of the late Sammy Dewitt and Vera Mae (Garrett) Huggins. He married his wife, Dorothy Campbell Huggins, May 29, 1949. She survives.

He was a member of the Exchange Street Church of Christ in Union City, TN for the past 5 years. He retired from 62 years of preaching beginning at the age of 18. He preached for several Churches of Christ throughout the Southeast. He served in World War 2 as Private First Class medic. He was a graduate of Faulkner University, Montgomery, Alabama, (formerly Alabama Christian College) and Montgomery Bible School).

He is survived by four children and their spouses: Gail and James Wroten of Booneville, Ms., Marilyn and T.J. Senter of Hot Springs, Ark, Loretta and Jerry Tennison of Marietta, Ga, and Dan and Julie Huggins of Union City, Tn; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; his brother Horace Huggins and wife, Doris, of Athens, Alabama; and his sister Jeannette Pierce and husband, Harold of Dothan, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Samuel Farris Huggins and Farris' wife, Linda.
