Agnes E. Hower, age 88, of Bloomsburg died peacefully on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 8, 2013, at her home with her children by her side, and under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice.

Agnes was born on Sunday, April 12, 1925, in Danville, a daughter of the late Alonzo Sr. and Adda (Sears) Krum. Agnes completed her education as a member of the 1944 Graduating Class of the Danville High School. Following her education, Agnes married her beloved husband, the late James D. Hower Sr., on June 25, 1944. She was a devoted lifelong member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Bloomsburg. When time allowed, Agnes loved playing dominos, crosswords, and was a puzzle enthusiast. She also had a talent for needlework, and a very green thumb in gardening. Agnes spent her entire life caring and providing for her family and children in many ways. The memories that they have shared together throughout the years will always be cherished.

On Sept. 28, 2000, Agnes was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, James D. Hower Sr. She was also preceded by a son: James D. Hower Jr., on Feb. 21, 1993; and by four brothers: Ronald J. Krum, Alonzo Krum Jr., Calvin W. Krum and Frederick Krum.

Survivors include a daughter: Kim A. Young of Bloomsburg; a son: Dale E. Hower and wife, Thayes, of Santee, Calif.; a grandson: Chad Young of Bloomsburg; two sisters: MaryAlice Carodiskey and Grace E. Mensch, both of Danville; and also by a brother: John R. Krum Sr. of Danville.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 to 10 a.m. from the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 E. Seventh St., Bloomsburg.

Funeral services will begin on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m., also from the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Bloomsburg, with her pastor, the Rev. Stephen D. Engelhardt, officiating. Agnes will be laid to rest next to her late husband in Lime Ridge.

The Hower family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
