Gloria Fritz Darby Gilbert, aged 86 years, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, resident of Ocala, FL, passed away Sep 8, 2013. A native of Monroe County, Pennsylvania, she preferred warm climes and resided virtually her entire adult life in Florida. Mrs. Gilbert, the only daughter of Edgar H. Fritz and Margaret Cramer Fritz, is survived by her four children from her marriage to Gordon Darby: Jack (Linda Louise) Darby of Marion County, FL, Linda Gay Darby of Marin County, CA, Douglas (Susan) Darby of Rowan County, NC, and Pamela Darby (Richard) Marut, of Fayette County, TX; two brothers: Terry Fritz of Lackawanna County, PA and Neil (Ginger) Fritz of Monroe County, PA. Her two other brothers, Robert and Brian Fritz, preceded her in death. Robert N. Gilbert, Jr, whom she married in 1976, passed away February 2008 in Spring Hill, FL. His daughters, Lynn Gilbert Hamil, and Leslie Gilbert (Skipper) Hitchcock, reside in Glynn County, GA. Mrs. Gilbert is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
For many years, she worked in the savings and loan industry, most notably First Federal Savings of Jacksonville. She and Bob spent much time traveling and visited most of the 50 states. More recently, she enjoyed driving to visit her children and their families, sewing and quilting. A Memorial Service will be conducted 11:30 am Friday, September 20, 2013, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, TimberRidge, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala, FL, with Pastor Randall Brown officiating. Inurnment to follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Ave, Ocala, FL 34474.
