John Crazy Bear was a Lakota Sioux Indian. He retired from the USMC and was a veteran of WWII, the Vietnam War and the Korean War, where he was a survivor of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
Poppa Bear was 82 at the time of his death.
He was was married to the late Delores Crazy Bear.
He is survived by his two sons, Jonathon Crazy Bear of Jacksonville and Carson Crazy Bear of Wilmington; three daughters, Dianne Atallah of Greenville, Cathy Robison of Pleasanton, CA and Senovefa Smith of Jacksonville; and seven grandchildren.
