David served in the Civil War. [Note the Name change from Geoghagan to Gohagan made by all of the Children of this marriage}. The change in the spelling of Surname Geoghagan to the spelling Gohagan first appeared in the register of the Steep Bottom Church of which David Gohagan was a Member. He served CSA, County E, 11th SC infantry. Enlisted 7/4/1861,captured in Virginia 6/24/1864, spent winter of 1864-65 as POW in Elmira, NY,returned Home June 1865.
