From the photo volunteer:
I searched the index in the two volume "Detailed Reading: Oakwood Cemetery and West Oakwood Cemetery, Spartanburg, South Carolina", prepared by the Pinckney District Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society in 1995, and could not find this headstone in the records. There were 7 "J." or "James" Browns but none matched either the birth or death date of this James Brown. Unfortunately, this means I could not find a plot location and the cemetery is quite large.The fact that it was not in the survey could mean (1) the person was not buried in Oakwood Cemetery, (2) the person was buried there, but the headstone was not visible or present during the 1995 survey, (3) there was an error in the survey or making of the index.


Son of James Valentine Brown and Selah Ellender/Ellenore Case. Brother of Swan Jefferson Brown. Married to Tennie Bradley.
